One picture of your last outing.

18# 8 oz Salmon on Lake Michigan. That took about 15 mins ( maybe longer 🤷🏼‍♂️) to get on the boat! The initial run peeled at least 350’ of line, probably more, but I didn’t look at the line counter (485’) until I had been slowly working the fish back in for some time. Netting a fish of that size by yourself requires you to hold your mouth just right! The swim step makes that a lot easier as well.

Nice catch!

Out doing some eagle hunting on the Seneca River, and ran into Flotsam! - "Flotsam is a troupe of musicians, circus performers, and puppeteers who travel on a ramshackle raft giving free performances in waterfront towns." They're doing a tour from Buffalo to Albany, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal. Local shows tonight and tomorrow, so we might go check them out.

Those are the remnants of an Erie Canal aqueduct in the background. The original canal went over the Seneca River, but the modern canal makes use of the Seneca, the Mohawk, and a number of lakes as well as some dug sections in western NY.

How cool is that!!!! ??

No joy today. Storms throughout the area, and I'm nursing a hamstring injury, so I watched the world pass by, and had a few conversations with neighbors who were out between the storms

We'd kill for some of that rain. We average a little over 3.5" of rain a month in June/July/August. I think we've seen less than three inches in total for the last three months. I've gotten less than 1/4" of rain at my house over the last 30 days.

Hopefully you were doing something fun when you pulled that hamstring!

Beating the heat. Grillin n chillin while out with my wife of 34 years on our anniversary.

Quite a contrast to the early season out your way with excessive rainfall and water levels eh? We had a relatively dry winter and low lake levels in March due to lack of snow and the Bureau of Reclamation letting out too much water, but!, regular thunderstorms brought the lake up from 12’ in March to 8’ low, 88% full, and have kept the lake level relatively consistent at roughly 8’ low and the countryside is still green. Even the eastern plains are still somewhat green, and most of the stock ponds are full on either side of I-90, I’m very grateful for that! It has been the seventh wettest July on record for the Black Hills.

The farmer’s almanac forecast is cold and snowy this winter. The FA has a claimed accuracy of 80%+, meteorologists chuffaw at that but I never cease to be amazed at how modern meteorologists get the weather so wrong, often wildly wrong, updating their forecasts when Joe comes back into the office after being outside for a moment, in this part of the country it’s prudent to always have rain gear and a fleece handy in addition to swim suits in the summer. I have found that this climate summary to be quite accurate, with variation, for this area. Black Hills Climate Overview

While we’ve had our hot days this summer, but it has been a cooler summer with high humidity… of course WI would say “hold my beer” LOL!

Just got back from WI and it’s technicolor green there in addition to wonderful hospitality from @drewkaree and @WiskyDan . The weather did get in the way of boating days, waterspouts and boating doesn’t end well, so best to stay on the hard and enjoy more of WI’s great food and wonderful people, still a great trip !

@FSH 210 Sport sent me a photo of his chart plotter during his excursion out on Lake Michigan and he traversed "Death's Door"........ twice........

This is the waterway between the tip of Door County peninsula (the "thumb" of Wisconsin) and Washington Island. That area can get pretty rough - we used the ferry once and still got bounced around pretty good. Fortunately everything went well but I held my breath for a few hours until Dale checked in. :)

Deaths Door….. on a calm day.

No dice on anything fun with the injury, tripped on a 2" curb in dark conditions. Much less severe than the softball hamstring injury a number of years ago, that was a brutal one. As for the rain, we've had plenty to send your way - still worried about flooding with these rains, as we got hammered last weekend, and it's still not gone down enough that this was just a nothingburger rainy weekend - people were on edge!

Last weekend, terrible flooding shown in the pics below just 3 miles from my house, and the flooding branched out to within an eighth of a mile from me. My son, brother-in-law, nephew & 2 friends all got some basement damage, with my nephew and the 2 friends getting it the worst.

This was the joke the day after, when they still played the game. Dicey roads, restricted parking due to the floods, and people just not able to leave the house, or having to clean up...they were good about refunds, from what I heard, but the show must go on 🤪
