Putting vents in battery/aft portside storage

So I'm considering cutting some vent holes in the battery storage compartment to provide some ventilation to that area as my sub and amp are in there. I've never had any problems but there always "that" smell in there (you know what I'm talking about) and there is really no ventilation in any storage area. I was thinking something like these:

Bad idea? Has anybody done anything similar?
 
In my '07 SX230 I never had the smell but my sniffer doesn't work all that well. The '07 had a small vent just forward of the port flushing connector but probably to small to help the sub-woofer. I have seen people put vents in to help their sub-woofers breathe better and done right it looks factory.

Maybe the smell is the "old boat" smell :) You don't have that problem with the 2016 Cobalt :)
