So another problem with my 2009 SX210 project boat has is that the Starboard (Engine #2) Check Engine Light does not seem to illuminate at all.
Apparently the lights are not supposed to work with just the key in the Ignition On position without the engine running.
If I turn the key, and just bump the starter, I get the Oil Pressure and Temperature lights for a few seconds, but no Check Engine Light.
Both engines seem to run well, but I am suspicious that there may be an issue(s) with the Starboard engine.
Checks already done:
I swapped tachometer connectors, and the problem moved to the port (#1) Tach. I also verified that the light in the Starboard Tach does light when connected to the port engine. (although all 3 warning lights are dimmer in the right tach than the left.) I inspected the connectors, and swapped them back to their correct sides.
I disconnected all connectors from the ECU, inspected and re-connected. No corrosion or evidence of water, and no change when re-connected.
I did the same for the larger gray engine connector near the top rear of the engine compartment.
I do not see any other breaks/damage in the harness from the engine to the dash in any location where it was easy to inspect.
Note that there is a single red wire that is plugged into the diagnostic connector. With this disconnected from the port engine I got none of the 3 warning lights, and no tach indication for the port engine. Apparently, they are just taking +12V for the tach from the diagnostic connector. I thought this was a little strange.
I found this drawing in the Yamaha AR230, SX230, SR230 and 232... forum, and it seems to match my boat.
From this, I get:
Red -------- +12V Power
Black ------ Ground
Top Blue -- Panel Light
That leaves the other Blue (pin 5), Grey, Tan/White, and Blue/White. If I knew which was the Check Engine Light, it would really help me (and probably others) with further troubleshooting.
I could assume that Grey is a conventional tach signal, and that the 3 on the bottom are the 3 lights, but without further knowledge I don't want to just start messing with wires. ECU's are expensive.
I realize that I could swap ECU's, but that seems a little invasive just to troubleshoot a light.
Lastly, and just for reference, Note that there is a mistake on this drawing for wire colors associated with the speedometer panel light.
Thanks for any help.
