Crazy "facts" I've heard about this accident:

1) The follow helicopter was slow on the start of this run, which probably saved the boat from hitting the helo (speculation, but the helo did seem to be flying low enough on other runs that this could've happened.)
2) They had the boat running and on the water the next day (this one is pretty shifty)
 
My wife says this is what will happen every time we get into something more than one foot of chop.

Does your wife also insist that you "steer clear" of oncoming boat traffic that's barely a blip on the horizon? When we first bought our boat, I considered asking Simrad if they wanted my wife to come show them how their radar should work...

The splintered hull part rather adds to the skepticism on it being back on the water the next day. Unless they used Flex Tape.
