Flush Port Plug

Maybe stupid question….

I have 2018 195ID Open with 250. Boat has flush port “on deck” and the “original” left above the jet nozzle. Now the question: do both need to be plugged during operating the boat (driving) or only the one on deck? thanks!!!

The one below deck should not be plugged. It acts as an overflow outlet. The one on deck is capped just to prevent water from spewing on deck or a kid from putting an object in there.

One more

When I flush the bost (exhaust/intercooler) attaching the hose on the upper port, do i need to plug the lower one?

No need. The water in both cases goes through the exhaust system before it exits mainly the exhaust hole, not the flush port. But some water coming out of the bottom flush port is perfectly normal.

And in case nobody told you or you're not aware.

1. Engine on.
2. Water on.
3. Water off.
4. Engine off.

Order matters. Keep flushing well below 2 min max. Ideally you should be able to do it in about a min. Over 2 min, carbon seal will start to overheat since it's only cooled when the boat is sitting in water. The hose water doesn't cool this part.

by the way: do you recommend using salt away or something when flushing? or just tap water…

That part I have zero qualifications lol. I'm so far inland, I barely know what salt water is (Ontario, Canada).

But I'd just follow what the manual says. Which is just fresh water, 20 sec at fast idle of about 4k rpm.
