Hi all!

Here's the business end of my new (to me) 2007 AR230HO. It came with these Cobra Jet fins and since I can't find anything like them online, I assume that they're an older generation of Cobra Jets. I bought Lateral Thruster for my boat because Cobra Jet was listed as compatible, but now that I have them I can see that they're not...

If I take one side of the fins off, I think I can make the lateral thrusters fit. Then I would only be running with one fin on each jet. By that I mean I would be taking the inboard fins off and leaving the outboard fins installed. Is that ok?? Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Cobra jet steering puts you in control at any speed, from docking to wide open throttle even during rapid deceleration, in forward and reverse.
We also make numerous special model specific steering systems for various versions of Yamaha jet boats that offer a lot more than just improved steering at the dock . So do your research all aftermarket steering systems are not alike. It's like driving a new boat without the expense!

Making jet boats steer and drivers smile since 2001 WE WON'T STEER YOU WRONG!"

The newer style cobra jet steering is compatible with my mega fang plus, these greatly improve the factory reverse control and increase the reverse power for backing and for stopping and add a power steering effect to the helm as the older steering has a 1/4 turn helm compared to the newer style that has over 1/2 turn helm.
Remember Cobra started this 24 years ago and it provides steering improvement at all speeds even maintains control while rapidly decelerating during a turn at speed.
The early reverse openings of the Yamaha boats is just an oblong hole that puts the thrust under the boat when in reverse , the fangs were designed to make that work a lot better by focusing the reverse thrust and directing it in 2019 Yamaha changed the nozzles and put in 2 reverse shoots in each nozzle to improve the reverse control .
These are very effective in comparison to the original type.
Also remember any of the reverse thrust you remove from doing the reverse power function and stopping power will reduce the reverse effect .
I build model specific steering systems I would suggest you remove the early style systems and try the boat stock you will instantly realize just how effective that older system is at all speeds.
Now I offer super fins , these fins have a larger top that is not in the water at speed but when the boat is off plane the entire fin system is in the water doing it's job providing excellent slow speed assistance and reverse control they are adjustable so you can set the level of influence to your preference they are also compatible with the mega fang plus . There are also a couple different choices and upgrades.
I have buy direct discount prices all year long and free domestic shipping is included. I would also strongly recommend you add the EZ locks to your push button clean out plugs to prevent blowouts only $49.95 for the twin set. And if you need assistance feel free to call or email me .

You may need to cut out a notch in the cobra fine. I have cobra fins with lateral thrusters and the notch worked fine.

I just noticed the comment that Cobra steering is compatible with lateral thrusters this is NOT true, never has been!
I always warn people to be careful about believing everything they read on the internet as the info is often totally incorrect..
People often try to give assistance but they have a totally different set than the person they are trying to help and they do not totally understand what model specific steering systems means and they do not stop to realize 24 years of making jet boat and P W C steering will probably be different from one model to the next. I believe the best advice is the post where it was suggested that you contact me . I always recommend that people contact me directly for information regarding my products, to avoid making mistakes.
Just as I warn people that watching videos that were NOT authorized by me will often give them incorrect information.
This is my passion I started making steering for jet boats and P W C's in 2001 I originally did it for myself, I purchased a jet boat at 49 years old after owning prop boats since1966 when I was 14.
After making steering for myself I was asked to make them for Yamaha jet boats and I did .
At first there was just one nozzle and 1 reverse bucket so making steering that fit all the boats was simple.
As time went on things changed and people wanted different things and different boats required different designs so please take my advice and if you need info on a steering product feel free to contact me.
My advice for your boat would have been first EZ locks for the clean out plugs, $49.95 for twin set.
And super ultimate, spring loaded, selectable and adjustable steering that automatically provides variable steering effect based on the position of the hull in the water so you get the correct amount of influence and you can adjust it to your personal preference. $399.99 for the twin engine set.
Next I would have recommended the mega fang plus upgrade . The one for your boat with the ultimate steering on it would have been $169.99 for the twin engine set.
These provide a mild power steering effect as the older boats only have a 1/4 turn helm for a full right or a full left turn. The mega fang plus makes the boat smoother to handle .
The mega fang plus also deals with the old style reverse opening on the nozzles.
When in reverse the bucket is down it redirects the forward thrust under the boat and that pushes the boat backward , however the thrust is not really focused or concentrated so the stock reverse control is slow and sloppy .
With the mega fang plus the fins sit on either side of the reverse opening and focus the water when it exits the bottom of the nozzle plus concentrates it for better backing power and better stopping power as well as more steering control in reverse.
And as I said a mild power steering effect is created by the front of the fangs going forward past the pivot point of the nozzle helping to cancel out some of the resistance. Both from the force of the jet going through the inside of the nozzle and the fin resistance from the water. people forget that the jet water inside the nozzle creates resistance when trying to turn the nozzle at speed.
I also noticed that Yamaha is actually using a fang on the front of some of the rudders on the 19 foot boats . It is a very effective time tested and proven method of reducing the resistance.
Remember every thing I do usually has more than 1 function and often if someone does not understand how it works or why it is there they put their own and usually incorrect assumption on explaining it.
Remember 24 years is a long time to stay focused on something it's my passion just 1 year shy of 1/3rd of my entire life is invested in this and I do take it very seriously as I should.
I always say do your research before you choose any steering for your jet boat.
One more important thing to remember I offer BUY DIRECT DISCOUNT PRICES "ALL YEAR LONG" and free domestic shipping ,plus a 30 day satisfaction money back guarantee!!! Here is the steering and mega fang plus setup I recommended to him when he emailed me.
