I have a 2021 Scarab 195 ID Wake

Is the Optima 27 okay for me to switch to?

I'd have to make the battery tray a little larger to get this big battery to fit but seems like the house/standby time is really good. Don't want to add second battery so thinking this will help me hang at the sandbar a little longer? Thoughts?

I know I know.. I could add a second battery - but dont have much room with all the wake ballasts and I have a jump pack if need be. So thinking I could listen to muzac for a little bit with this battery's 144 minute standby time?

Can my little 195 keep this battery charged?

It will be fine. Get yourself a voltage monitor that you can keep your eye on while you're using it. If you see the battery dropping below a certain amount, you'll know it's time to stop.

AGM deep cycle batteries can also tolerate it dropping to lower voltages without being badly damaged unlike lead acid. So if it does go too low, a jump pack will do the trick. But i wouldn't rely on that.

Otherwise yes, two batteries is best if you plan on using the boat turned off a lot.

Putting your battery on a quality smart battery charger when the boat is not in use is essential to getting the best performance and the best lifespan.

Install one of these so you KNOW how energy you’ve drawn out of your battery, anything else is just a guess.
SmartShunt | Victron Energy

Voltage cannot be used as an accurate way to determine SOC on a lead acid battery unless it’s disconnected and at rest for 24 hours.

These shunts are small, easy to install and configurable to all battery types, it’s $98 on Amazon.

If you install a second battery with an automatic charge relay, DVSR, and put all the house / accessory load on the second battery and keep the start battery isolated, you could keep the battery sizes small, E.G. Group 24. If you use a LFP battery for the house battery you can cut the weight of the second battery by 50% over lead acid and have more than double the energy storage capacity than the Group 27 AGM battery.

If you don’t want to spend the time and money to add a second battery then I’d go with a quality flooded lead acid battery and maintain it properly. Check the gravity and run a monthly equalization charge on it, takes about 5 minutes of your time to do so.

This battery is about half the cost and has 30 more mins of reserve capacity and 14 more Ah than the battery you listed of the same size which is typical when comparing FLA and AGM batteries.
