Got the boat in the water this weekend and got a port side check engine light warning. The motor seemed to be running fine, no strange noises, normal power, water coming out of the pilot hose. I stopped and started the motor a couple of times and the CEL warning came on each time. Then I cycled the battery switches and it did not come back. We used the boat the rest of the day with no issues.
I did hose out the engine compartment while cleaning the boat the day before. Maybe some water got somewhere that doesn't like being wet and that caused it to throw a code?
Should I worry about this issue if it's not coming back?
How can I read trouble codes to diagnose CEL warnings? I have an OBD2 reader for my truck, but I'm guessing that doesn't work with the boat.
I searched the forum but couldn't find a simple guide on how to find the code that's being thrown and then a reference to look up what the code means.
