Caught this little guy last week while throwing a spinnerbait. I didn't know they'd hit lures, I've never caught one on an artificial jig before. 20210506_131957.jpg

Beautiful! I didn’t know that either. I’ll give it a try cause they aren’t biting anything else for me.

Yeah, I asked my uncle who's an old school fisherman and he said they'd hit those baits every now and then.

Nice catch, i'm still learning how to fish [flag]

Oh me too. I haven't really fished since I was a kid, but I've missed it. I'm just fishing off the back of my Vortex, anchored. I don't have the luxury of trolling the shoreline and I don't use a fish finder. I find a spot that looks nice, anchor down, and start fishin'. The last couple weeks I've caught some nice smaller largemouth bass, bluegill, the catfish, and a couple that I'm not really sure what they are :p

I grew up in TN catching catfish. Thought I knew what I was doing but I can’t catch anything in KY. I’m on a lake where they stocked over 100,000 catfish in 2003. Can’t catch them. Ha! Going to try a spinner.

That’s. Awesome. I caught a small guy about that size “trolling” with line behind the boat at above trolling speed and hooked up on an eager catfish once. To say the least they are very opportunistic feeders.

Lol, I had a similar experience, I got a shovel head one time on a little jig while crappie fishing. I knew it wasn’t a crappie when I felt the weight of him while reeling him in. I’m no expert fisherman, but even I found that a bit odd. Anyway, nice catch!

yeah when he hit it I thought I had a nice little bass, I was pretty surprised when I got him on the boat!

Switch to a rooster tail when the young cats are hunting. Have caught 20+ in an hour when they are moving.

You got me curious, and my ADD took over, so I did some searching... any chance it's a mutton snapper? The body looks a little more slender than most google pics, but the markings are very similar... This is all Google, not my expertise...lol

I am not sure, it doesnt match pic in my florida fish list. Unless it change color when it gets older? This is only 10" long so could be juvenile. I cant find any fish online that matches it exactly

Gotcha... I just got curious, and started searching for a match, and some of the pics google brought up looked pretty close... Maybe someone who's got more knowledge will eventually chime in...lol

Here in Bama I catch them on Rooster Tails and Blue Foxes.

I’m going to try a rooster tail tomorrow. I’ll let you know. Thanks for the tip.
