So I'm planning a mid August boating trip and figured I'd step out of my comfort zone of the Colorado River.

I've seen some comparable party pics to Havasu on the delta river and have always heard good things about that stretch of river. I just don't know much about it.......This is where I need the assistance of the Delta River Rats!

Here are a few questions:

- Where is the best place for us to stay with a dock? We are NOT looking for tranquil and quite..... we are looking to be in the heart of the party. Money isn't much of issue for us.
- How is boating on the Delta compared to boating on the Colorado River (Havasu, Martinez, Parker)
- How crowded does it get up there? We like crowds....
- What are the names of some good spots?
- Is there a Sand Bar area or some sort of party cove?
- Cliff jumping?
- How is the depth of the river?
- Is it fresh or salt water?
- The lost Isle looked fun. Sucks it is closed. Is there any other boat up spots like that?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated :winkingthumbsup"

Hopefully I can make this trip happen!

@Julian Might want to move this to destinations..

What up Sototally Tober! I see you want to play in our back yard. HELL YEAH! Holidays can be crazy out here. For me it's not the crowds but the once a year boaters that's scary. There's always lots of different venues. From taco Tuesdays to the overboard party at ski beach in discovery bay. It's over 1000 miles of water ways so there's different things in different areas. Lots of places to eat. I'm new to the delta ( 6 years) so I don't know it all. When do you plan on coming this way? Let me know when and I call see what organized events are going on. Both ski beaches are always off the hook on the weekends . Check out this site and if you got ANY questions hit me up. www.californiadelta.org. A lot of the events don't get posted until close to the day of.

Thanks! I appreciate the info!

I defer to rjclark on this sotally tober, although I'm a ca Sacramento River rat I don't know of any party spots like the ones in your posts other than those rjclark already mentioned. The biggest being the at a cove near old Sacramento, the name escapes me now (and I didn't know it until rjclark told it to me). If a raft up party is what you are into I suggest that you start there. That is use old sac as a base for your trip. You can launch nearby and keep your boat at the guest docks in old Sacramento. If you stay at the embassy suites on the water there you will only be two hundred yards or less away from your boat in the water and may be able to see your boat from your room depending on the room you get. The local party spot is maybe 2 miles up river. From there you can explore the delta but keep in mind that it's about 50 miles north of the SF Bay Area where rjclark and I boat. I haven't travelled much farther north but there are a few cool places to eat, some with outdoor venues and concerts. If you want to engage in water sports you are going to have to travel a little to find open water v. Being in a relatively narrow slough.

If you have the time and or motivation, pack up after a few days in Sacramento and stay at or near Orwood marina near discovery bay / Brentwood ca. Its easy access to skiers beach, open water and the delta loop from there. One lake alternative and there are many is lake berryessa near napa. They rent cabins at markley cove and it looks like there is a cove on the other side of the lake that people gather to raft up in. I'm sure there are other great boating spots north of sacramento and south of my location on the rivers that make up the delta but I just don't know about them.

Please keep us posted on what you decide, I'd try and make it out with my boat to meet you if the timing is right.

If you come up with your RV then orwood is definitely a good spot for you. There are others nearby that you will discover once in the area. If you are planning to hit any lakes up here I recommend you check the zebra and quagga mussel inspection requirements, if any first. some places have them others don't but some also ask you to sign a statement that your boat has not been in infect waters for X days or they simply don't let you launch if you are from an area with known infected lakes. Every lake seems to be different depending on who runs it, fed, state or local government.

I'd like to post some vids of party's on the ca delta but need help. You tube vids that is.

Rjlark, if you need help posting to you tube let me know. Basically open up you tube and open up an account there. It's free. Then you can post videos either raw or edited by hitting the upload button, selecting the file to up load and confirming the same. You can use youtube's sw to edit after the upload if you want as well.

Yeah the party spots are not usually what I consider family friendly and I don't have pics because my wife is usually with me , she is not down with me admiring all the hotties for prolonged periods of time, glancing and commenting is ok bit taking pictures for later, not really. Once the tops start coming off my wife is usually the first one to say we are leaving, especially if out son is with us. There is usually a spot nearby which is informally designated as the family friendly location. Even at lost isle before they closed (they checked I'd as you got off the dock), there was a beach area less than 100 feet away where kids / families could play. At skiers beach near discovery bay all off the action happens at the front of small island, the sides are often occupied by boaters with kids.

My wife knows I look but DO NOT touch. It would be rediculous for any man or woman that's sound all that exposed flesh on the water to lie saying we don't look. I respect my wife too much for that. But it's cool to keep it PG13 too! To each his/her own. I'll post some more vids. The first one was " Rage on the River" on the Sacramento River @ discovery park. They throw a midnite party there once a year also. Hope everybody enjoys the vids.
